- The biggest move in the week ended February 27 was in spot flatbed rates. The national average rate rose 5 cts to $2.35 per mile. It was the third week in a row with an increase. “Capacity in the flatbed market also continues to tighten, as the load-to-truck ratio for flatbeds increased 10% last week,” DAT said in its report. The load-to-truck ratio jumped to 70.8 loads per truck from 64.2.
- The national average van rate for the week ended February 24 declined 1 ct to $2.14 per mile. DAT reports that it was the seventh consecutive week posting a decline, but noted that prices remain significantly above where they were last year. The load per truck ratio slipped to 6.7 loads per truck.
- Average van rates for specific cities highlighted by DAT were Los Angeles, $2.14; Dallas, $1.87; Chicago, $2.64; Atlanta, $2.35; and Philadelphia, $2.08
- The national average reefer rate was down 2 cts to $2.43 per mile, but it’s still up 56 cts from where it was last year. The reefer load-to-truck ratio nationally was down 3% from the prior week at 9.3 loads per truck.
