A 22-year Maersk Group veteran, Sorensen will be replaced by current Maersk Line Head of East West Trades Klaus Rud Sejling.
Sejling joined Maersk in 1997, working in various roles at Maersk Tankers and Maersk Line before joining the former Maersk Logistics – now called Damco – as branch manager and later chief commercial officer for China. More recently, he has served as head of group strategy, chief operating officer, and CCO of Maersk Tankers until re-joining Maersk Line as head of east west trades in 2014.
“It has been a great journey and I have been lucky to meet inspirational leaders along the way who had great confidence in my capabilities,” Sørensen said of her decision to leave the Maersk Group. “I enjoyed my role at Damco and will miss working with thousands of colleagues who have shared the journey with me as well as the great interactions with our customers. Damco is in a good place and has an exciting role to play to drive customer focus in the new division, Transport & Logistics.”
A.P. Møller – Maersk said earlier this month it will split its subsidiary businesses into two independent divisions, one focusing on transport and logistics, and the other focusing on energy.
Along with the split, the company announced several changes to top management, including the appointment of A.P. Moller Shipping Services Chief Executive Morten Engelstoft as CEO of terminal operator division APM Terminals (APMT). Engelstoft replaces current APMT CEO Kim Fejfer, who will be taking up a new role at AP Møller Holding A/S, the investment arm of the A.P. Møller Foundation, which owns 41.51 percent of the parent group’s share capital and 51.23 percent of its votes.
“I regret Hanne has chosen to leave Maersk, however I respect her decision to explore new opportunities,” Søren Skou, CEO of the Maersk Group, said of Sørensen’s resignation. “I would like to thank her for her many contributions to Damco and to A.P. Møller – Maersk, and I wish her success in the future.”
“I am thrilled to join Damco at such an exciting time, to continue to drive growth and leverage synergies across the Transport and Logistics division,” added Sejling.
