Expeditors launches sensor-based logistics firm Cargo Signal

The Seattle-based third-party provider’s new subsidiary, Cargo Signal, has a proprietary, sensor-based logistics system, as well as a global command center that’s open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, according to Expeditors International.    Seattle-based global logistics and freight forwarding company Expeditors International is launching a new subsidiary, Cargo Signal, that’s focused on providing sensor-based tracking that the company says can “enhance shipment visibility, integrity, and security” for customers globally.
The new company, according to Expeditors Secure Service Global Director Randy Gould, has a proprietary, sensor-based logistics system, as well as a global command center that’s open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Real-time GPS tracking tells customers exactly where their freight is located, and notifications and environmental monitoring gives cargo movers the power to make critical decisions while their freight is in transit, according to Cargo Signal.
“Our Cargo Signal platform is based on our deep understanding of international logistics and the people, processes and technology needed to deliver the high level of service our customers require,” Expeditors President of Global Services Gene Alger explained in a Sept. 5 statement. “Dots on a map become powerful, actionable intelligence when paired with our people who have the experience and judgment to interpret the data and take timely action on our customers’ behalf to avoid losses and create more resilient and responsive supply chains.”
One feature of the new venture, according to Cargo Signal, is automated alerts in case something goes wrong.
“Our operating system has advanced alerting logic,” Gould said. “Of course, you have to know the plan in order to alert if something doesn’t go according to the plan, so logistics experience in configuring those alerts adds value.”
