Executive Moves: Virgin Atlantic Cargo and SLSI

Virgin Atlantic Cargo names head of global accounts and regional sales manager for the United Kingdom, while the Short Line Safety Institute selects its executive director.    Virgin Atlantic Cargo appointed Ryan Ellis head of global accounts, succeeding Steve Hughes, who left the airline in April. Ellis joined Virgin Atlantic in 2010 and previously held the roles of regional sales manager – continental Europe, and most recently, head of GSA territory management.
   Virgin Atlantic Cargo also named Ray Wood regional sales manager for the United Kingdom. Wood was previously responsible for global key accounts covering regions of the UK and Ireland and EMEA for IAG Cargo. He also spent 14 years with Lufthansa Cargo in various sales roles, including UK sales manager, and gained experience working in the freight forwarding industry.

   The Short Line Safety Institute (SLSI) selected Thomas “Tom” Murta as its executive director, effective July 10. Murta most recently served as assistant vice president of safety and operations compliance for CSX Transportation. He was with CSX for 24 years, and held positions responsible for safety and compliance, hazardous materials systems, environmental compliance, and infrastructure. Before joining CSX, he spent six years with the Kentucky Department of Natural Resources.
