Badat succeeds Zhao Huxiang from China, who will now serve as immediate past president for the next two years.
Robert Voltmann from the United States has been re-elected to serve as secretary general; and Francesco Parisi from Italy, who previously served as immediate past president, was elected treasurer.
The three positions of senior vice president went to Ivan Petrov of Bulgaria, Basil Pietersen of South Africa, both of which were re-elected, and Turgut Erkeskin of Turkey. Erkeskin joined the presidency as a new member, and he has been working with the FIATA for a long time.

Saltchuk, a Seattle-based conglomeration of transportation and distribution companies, has selected Glenn Hong to lead its Hawaii business initiatives. Hong will transition from Saltchuk’s subsidiary, Young Brothers, Ltd., at the end of the year to join Saltchuk on Jan. 1, 2018. Hong was hired on at Young Brothers in 1991 as vice president of finance and government affairs, coming from Hawaiian Electric Industries. In 1992, Hong assumed the role of president. He joined the Saltchuk organization back in 1999 when the company acquired Young Brothers and Hawaiian Tug & Barge from Hawaiian Electric Industries.
The Transportation Institute at the University of Denver’s board of directors unanimously elected Jim Hertwig as its new chair. Hertwig currently serves as president and CEO of Florida East Coast Railway, LLC in Jacksonville, Fla. and has 46 years of experience in freight transportation and leadership. Prior to joining Florida East Coast Railway, he served as president of CSX Intermodal, Inc. for six years, and before that, he spent nearly nine years as president of Landstar Logistics. From 1994-1995, he served as president and CEO of Carolina Freight Corp. and also as chairman and CEO of Red Arrow Freight Lines. Before that, he spent eight years as president and CEO of Con-Way Intermodal and also spent 13 years holding key management positions at CF Motor Freight.
