FreightWaves is excited to announce that Mark Solomon, formerly the executive editor at DC Velocity, has joined our editorial team as Managing Editor of freight markets. Solomon began his journalistic career in 1982 at Traffic World magazine, ran his own public relations firm, Media Based Solutions, from 1994 to 2008, and has been at DC Velocity since then.

Over the course of his career, Solomon has covered nearly the whole gamut of the transportation and logistics industry, including trucking, railroads, maritime, 3PLs, and regulatory issues. Solomon witnessed and narrated the rise of Amazon and XPO Logistics and the shift of the U.S. Postal Service from a mail-focused service to parcel, as well as the exponential, e-commerce-driven growth of warehouse square footage and omnichannel fulfillment.

“FreightWaves represents a new way of both looking at and covering freight transportation and logistics. Increasingly, goods distribution is occupying more spacetime in C-suites and boardrooms, in the United States and abroad. I look forward to delivering timely and relevant information to a dramatically expanding audience,” Solomon said.

“We are really proud to announce that Mark Solomon is joining the FreightWaves editorial team,” said Craig Fuller, CEO of FreightWaves. “Mark is a transportation media veteran and a thought leader who knows the industry backwards and forwards—he will be a huge asset to our brand as we continue to scale.”

FreightWaves launched its editorial operation in March 2017 as a company blog ran by Brian Straight, but quickly saw an opportunity to disrupt transportation business media. In the fall of 2017, FreightWaves started building up a full-time editorial staff made up of experienced traditional reporters, former academics, economists, financial analysts, and transportation industry insiders.

In February of this year, we brought on John Kingston, formerly Director of News at S&P Platts Global, to run our editorial operation as Executive Editor. By the spring of 2018, FreightWaves was the #1 most trafficked site in the world for transportation and logistics news, and recent partnerships with Barchart, Benzinga, and Yahoo Finance have extended our lead.
