Key Takeaways:

ABX Air provides airlift to USPS    ABX Air, primary provider of overnight air transport in the U.S. market for express courier DHL, said it has been awarded a short-term contract to help provide air transport to the U.S. Postal Service during the busy holiday season.
ABX Air, which has a fleet of 115 narrow-body aircraft that operate out of a private air park in Wilmington, Ohio, will act as a lead logistics contractor managing a network that includes its own aircraft and those of other air carriers.
ABX will provide surge capacity for the USPS, which already relies on commercial airlines and FedEx Express for long-distance mail carriage, by dedicating aircraft to the USPS during daytime hours and retaining their service to fly routes for DHL at night.
“This contract reflects our continuing effort to expand our relationship with the U.S. Postal Service, and thereby diversify our revenue base,” President Joe Hete said in a statement.
ABX is the former airline unit of Airborne Express, which was spun off as a separate company to comply with U.S. law after the parcel delivery company was acquired by DHL last year. ABX receives 99 percent of its revenue from DHL.
The contract has an estimated value of $5.1 million for ABX and its partners.
