APL’s March box traffic up 11%

APL increased its container traffic 11 percent to 154,000 FEUs during the four-week period ended April 8, compared to the same period last year, while its average revenue per FEU rose 8 percent to $2,735 from $2,528 a year ago.

However, the carrier’s traffic showed a slower growth than during the first two months of this year.

During the first 14 weeks of this year, year-to-date volumes shipped by APL grew 13 percent year-on-year, reflecting increases across all of the major trade lanes.

“A combination of continued strong demand and new services introduced in the second half of last year helped boost volume movements in the first 14 weeks of 2005,” said Neptune Orient Lines, parent company of APL.

Average revenues per FEU during the first 14-weeks of this year rose 7 percent to $2,732 over the year earlier period.
