Australian regulation on shrimp exports angers Vietnam government

It's not just Chinese food products that are getting the once-over from western regulators.

Government officials in Vietnam's fishing quality agency are angry that Australia has slapped strict new regulations over shrimp from Vietnam, saying that fresh and frozen shrimp have to be certified to be free of four diseases — white spot, yellow head, taura virus, and red eus — even though none of those diseases have ever been found in exported Vietnamese shrimp.

An official in the agency told Thanh Nien News that the new regulations will cost fisherman and exporters extra money, and he suggested they export processed shrimp to Australia until the country drops the heavier restrictions.
