Boeing goes back to work

Machinists at Boeing have voted to ratify a new four-year contract after a two-month strike that has cost the company an estimated $100 million per day in deferred revenue and set back aircraft delivery schedules.

About 27,000 workers in Washington, Oregon and Kansas began returning to work on Sunday after approving the contract negotiated by its union, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

The contract calls for general wage increases of 15 percent over four years, an immediate 16 percent pension increase and lump-sum payments of at least $8,000 over the life of the agreement.
