The board of directors of American Trucking Associations (ATA) has elected Sherri Garner Brumbaugh as the organization’s 76th chair.
Garner Brumbaugh, president and CEO of Garner Transportation Group of Findlay, Ohio, is only the second woman to chair the association.
“Despite the unprecedented challenges we face, I look forward to representing ATA and telling the country just how important and essential our industry is. The past seven months have shown just how much our country relies on trucking, and that is a message I want to shout loudly and proudly as your chair,” she said.
The ATA board also elected Harold Sumerford Jr., CEO of J&M Tank Lines Inc., Birmingham, Alabama, as first vice chairman and Dan Van Alstine, president and COO of Ruan Transportation Management Systems, Des Moines, Iowa, as second vice chairman. The board named Andrew Boyle, co-president of Boyle Transportation, Billerica, Massachusetts, and Darren Hawkins, CEO of YRC Worldwide Inc., Overland Park, Kansas, as vice chairmen. Reelected were John M. Smith, chairman of Admiralty Holdings Inc., as secretary and John A. Smith, president and CEO of FedEx Freight, as treasurer.
Garner Brumbaugh succeeds Randy Guillot, president of Triple G Express Inc. and Southeastern Motor Freight Inc., as ATA chair.
“Sherri has been a tireless booster of trucking, not just in Ohio, but across the country,” said Chris Spear, president and CEO of ATA. “As a second-generation trucker and ATA leader, she has deep roots in our industry and association and I congratulate her on this honor.”
In addition to being ATA’s second female chair, Garner Brumbaugh is the second member of her family to be elected ATA chair. She follows in the footsteps of her father, Vern Garner, who led the association in 2002-03.
Commission on the Future of Mobility
A group of business leaders and public policy experts has formed an organization to address the future of transportation, including self-driving and electric vehicles.
The Commission on the Future of Mobility reportedly plans to propose a new regulatory framework to address a global transportation sector “on the cusp of a worldwide transition driven by shared, connected, autonomous and electric technologies,” according to Reuters.
Reuters said the commission will be co-chaired by Jared Cohon, president emeritus of Carnegie Mellon University; former Ford Motor Co. CEO Jim Hackett and Transdev Group CEO Thierry Mallet.
Serving on the commission, slated to launch in February, will be Goodyear Tire & Rubber CEO Richard Kramer, FedEx CEO Fred Smith, Qualcomm CEO Steven Mollenkopf and Hyundai Motor Co. Chief Operating Officer José Muñoz.
ECU Worldwide
ECU Worldwide, a global less-than-container-load consolidator and provider of non-vessel-operating common carrier services, has appointed Salvador Camaraza as the national sales manager for the United States.
Camaraza, who will be based in ECU Worldwide’s Miami office, has more than 23 years of sales leadership experience in the United States and Europe.
“With his keen understanding of global supply chain markets and broad-based experience in sales leadership positions, Salvador will play a key role in driving initiatives to expand our customer base and boost sales revenue. He will prove to be a valuable asset for us in scaling sales performance benchmarks,” said Vincent Argenzio, ECU Worldwide’s executive vice president.
Southeastern Freight Lines
Regional less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation services provider Southeastern Freight Lines announced Wade Lovejoy has been promoted to service center manager in Tri-Cities, Tennessee.
Lovejoy has more than 15 years of experience at Southeastern, starting his career at the Hickory, North Carolina, service center as a freight handler. He has served in various leadership positions during his time with the company, including outbound supervisor, inbound supervisor and, most recently, assistant service center manager in Florence, South Carolina.
Seth Fetzer, regional vice president of operations for Southeastern Freight Lines, said Lovejoy is a “truly outstanding leader who cares deeply about the Southeastern company, our associates and our customers. After 15 years of embodying our culture and providing quality without question service, we are confident Wade is an excellent addition to the Tri-Cities team.”
