Contaminated alfalfa sprouts recalled

Contaminated alfalfa sprouts recalled Dixon, Calif.-based Salad Cosmo USA Corp. is recalling alfalfa sprouts after quality control tests showed salmonella contamination.
   The recall affects all the sprouts from the tested seed lot. The recalled sprouts are packaged in 2.5 oz. plastic containers with white and green labels and clear one-pound bags with blue labels under the brand name “Salad Cosmo Alfalfa Sprouts.” The recalled products were shipped to grocery stores and restaurants in California, Washington, Oregon and Nevada.
   No illnesses have been reported. While normally not fatal in healthy adults, salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.
