CORRECTION: First U.S. vessel sunk in WWII found

Various news reports on Wednesday incorrectly cited that the wreck of the MS City of Rayville was the first U.S. vessel sunk during World War II, when it went down off the southern coast of Australia on Nov. 8, 1941.

However, the USS Reuben James was the first U.S. vessel to be sunk on Oct. 31, 1941, when it was torpedoed near Iceland by a German sub. Only 44 of the 159-man crew survived.
