Daito introduces “hybrid” crane at “K” Line’s Yokohama terminal

Daito Corp., part of the 'K' Line group, last week introduced a 'hybrid' transfer crane manufactured by TCM Corp. at the Japanese shipping company’s Yokohama container terminal.

A transfer crane loads and unloads containers from/onto chassis for moving within the container yard.

The “hybrid” cranes have a system that reduces fuel consumption by reusing electricity that has been transformed from energy generated by containers being lifted downwards. It is said that the units can achieve a 40 percent to 50 percent reduction in oil consumption and a similar decrease for air pollution.

Over the next two months, Daito will introduce another two units — one from TCM and one from Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co. — at “K” Line’s Ohi terminal in Tokyo. Furthermore, next year Daito plans to introduce two more units at Ohi and one unit at the Yokohama/Honmoku terminal.
