The arrival of the block train in France saw the transit time for the 10,815-kilometer journey slashed by 20 days, according to Maersk freight forwarding subsidiary Damco.
Damco, the third-party logistics subsidiary of Danish shipping conglomerate A.P. Moller – Maersk, has completed its first block train service from China to Europe, the company said in a statement.
The service departed Wuhan in China’s Hubei Province on Oct. 28 and arrived on schedule in France on Nov. 16, transporting goods for sporting goods firm Decathlon, Damco said. A combination of GPS tracking and daily reports provided the client with up-to-the-minute visibility on its products.

Looking ahead, Damco said it will roll out the block train service to additional customers and market sectors “in due course.”
