The service promises to get these products to patients in eight hours or less anywhere in the continental United States, every day of the year.
“These products don’t typically have a constant or predictable demand,” said Mark Wiesman, president of DDN. “They’re often expensive, temperature-sensitive and difficult to inventory, but when patients need them, they need them immediately.”
Wiesman hopes Urgent Access will set a standard for supply chain services and efficiencies that can eventually be brought to cold chain and non-cold chain drugs.
DDN noted this type of delivery is typically centered on specific items and cost is not a major factor in their delivery, so it will not focus on certain savings methods like filling planes or trucks before deliveries begin.
