DHL targets growth in “technical services”

DHL said it plans to invest 50 million euros ($61.5 million) over the next five years to grow its “technical services” as part of a bid to increase its involvement in service logistics to repair or maintain functionality of products throughout their lifecycle.

The company said it wants to expand in China, India, Japan and Singapore.

DHL said these technical services might include, for example, manning telephone help desks for computer products, configuring software on mobile phones, checking warranty claims or to find counterfeit products.

'DHL operates from 400 sites in China and 470 locations in India. Of these, 15 percent of our sites in China and 40 percent of our facilities in India support Service Logistics. We expect to double the number and increase our service logistics footprint in China and India within the next three to five years,” said Paul Graham, chief executive officer of DHL Supply Chain, Asia Pacific.
