Eimskip parent Avion changes name

Avion Group, the Icelandic investment company specializing in the transport sector and parent of Reykjavik-based shipping and logistics company Eimskip, has changed its name to Hlutafelagid Eimskipafelag Islands (Hf. Eimskipafelag Islands).

“With Eimskip’s well established brand in Iceland and around the world, it is entirely appropriate to change our name to emphasize our origins as well as our current business activities,” said Magnus Thorsteinsson, chairman of Hf. Eimskipafelag Islands.

Thorsteinsson said that about 80 percent of the group’s turnover is generated from Eimskip, which has been on a spending spree of late, acquiring Toronto-based Atlas Cold Storage, Seattle’s Pacific Tramper Services Inc., and a majority stake in Finland’s Containerships among other purchases.

Hf. Eimskipafelag Islands as a group employs nearly 10,000 people worldwide and has 174 operational bases with over 100 temperature-controlled cold storage facilities as well as a fleet of about 25 aircraft, about 50 vessels and 1,340 trucks.
