The service, AES2000, will allow carriers to automate their outbound manifest process through Customs’ Automated Export System.
Carriers file their manifest data in three parts: the initial manifest based on booking information; the manifest prior to departure; and the final manifest after vessel departure. “The process is extremely paper intensive,” said Robert Foley, president of FCS.
AES2000 builds upon FCS’s automated services involving Customs’ inbound ocean Automated Manifest System and AES commodity data. The company developed Census’ free Internet service for exporters and freight forwarders to file shipper’s export declarations, called AESDirect.
The AES2000 service should be fully operational later this year, Foley said.
