FMCSA orders 2 carriers closed

   The U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has ordered Georgia-based General Trucking and Michigan-based Highway Star to shut down, saying the carriers are imminent public safety hazards due to a number of safety violations.
   At General Trucking, the agency found officials disregarded driver-qualification requirements, didn’t monitor current hours-of-service requirements and let drivers operate overloaded, unsafe vehicles.
   Highway Star drivers are guilty of not complying with federal regulations, including the hours of service requirement. FMCSA also singled out driver Ibrahim Fetic, who agency officials said caused a fatal crash in March, as an imminent hazard. He has been ordered to cease all commercial motor vehicle operations.
   “Safety is our No. 1 priority,” Anne S. Ferro, the agency’s administrator, said in a statement. “Every trucking company and driver has a role and responsibility to make it theirs as well. Companies that place the public at risk by demonstrating negligent behaviors and business practices will be shut down.” – Jon Ross
