German e-retailer expands contract with DHL

Express consignment carrier DHL announced Thursday that Home Shopping Europe 24 (HSE24) has extended its package delivery contract and placed all its logistics requirements with DHL as of the middle of next year. DHL is expanding its role by taking over warehousing services for the Munich-based multi-channel mail order company that were outsourced to a competitor in 2010.
The Deutsche Post subsidiary said it will increase the size of its logistics center in Greven, Germany, by October 2013, with parcel shipments fed to its adjacent parcel center via a conveyor bridge. The renovation will more than double the size of the facility from the current 23,000 square meters. The Greven distribution center currently has space for 16,000 pallets in its high-bay pallet racking system.
The upgraded facility will be able to process about 84,000 orders per day and will include space to store more than 250,000 garments on hangers, DHL said.
DHL Parcel Germany is directly responsible for the HSE24 account. HSE24’s requirements included fast, flexible handling of a large range of products, including garments and jewelry. DHL said its automated systems enable it to fulfill individual orders that include combinations of products.
Since the beginning of 2012, DHL Parcel Germany has consolidated all of its home delivery services under one roof. The new system allows customers to obtain fulfillment services such as procurement, quality control, warehousing, picking and packing, shipment delivery and returns management from a single point of contact, DHL said.
