Great Lakes bulk carriers to use MacGregor’s self-unloading systems

Cargotec subsidiary MacGregor has been contracted to supply two bulk carriers for Algoma, a Canadian Great Lakes shipping company, with gravity self-unloading systems.

MacGregor, part of cargo handling solutions provider Cargotec, has been contracted to supply two 20,000-dwt bulk carriers from the Yangzijiang shipyard in China with gravity self-unloading systems, MacGregor said.
The vessels will be delivered in late 2017/early 2018 to Algoma, a Canadian Great Lakes shipping company.
Under the contract, MacGregor will deliver a self-unloading system designed for a maximum unloading rate of 5,450 tons per hour for stone or iron ore and 4,360 tons per hour for coal.
MacGregor is responsible for designing the entire self-unloading system, including a discharge boom, full flow cargo gates, conveyor belts, cross conveyors and a C-loop.
The two bulk carriers will join Algoma’s fleet of 13 domestic self-unloading vessels operating on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway.
