HAPAG-LLOYD SELLS CONVENTIONAL SHIPPING LINE RICKMERS
Hapag-Lloyd has sold Rickmers Line, its conventional shipping arm, to German shipowner Reederei Bertram Rickmers.
Following the sale of its conventional shipping activities, Hapag-Lloyd will concentrate on container shipping through its subsidiary Hapag-Lloyd Container Line.
As part of the disposal, Hapag-Lloyd also sold Rickmers’ four multi-purpose ships, which are specially equipped to carry heavy cargoes. About 100 employees of Rickmers will move to the new owner.
The main trades of Rickmers are those connecting Europe and North America to the Indian subcontinent, Indonesia and South America.
Hapag-Lloyd said that there were few synergies between Rickmers and Hapag-Lloyd Container Line following the opening up of Chinese ports to containerships.
