Houston looks to add cranes, fund study for new terminal

Port of Houston Authority commissioners next Tuesday will consider advertising for three electric cranes for the Bayport Container Terminal.

The cranes, estimated to cost $33 million to $34.5 million, are needed because the port is building a third berth at Bayport. They would supplement six already in use at the terminal. When completed, Bayport will be able to handle an annual container volume of about 2.3 million TEUs.

Commissioners will also consider awarding a $1 million contract to Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. for a study on where to site a possible new container terminal at the port.
