HULL CRACK INTERRUPTS SEA-LAND SHIP’S VOYAGE

   A Sea-Land containership’s westbound transpacific voyage
was interrupted when a 15-foot-long crack was detected in the vessel’s hull, the company
said.

The 2,800-TEU Sea-Land Innovator was en route to Dutch
Harbor, Alaska, when the crack was discovered. The vessel was deployed within the TP-2
transpacific service operated jointly by Sea-Land and Maersk Line.

The ship was brought back to Tacoma, where its cargo
was discharged and transshipped. The vessel then was moved to a shipyard in Vancouver,
British Columbia, for further inspection.

Sea-Land said the cause of the crack wasn’t immediately
known.
