ITC says GOES imports don’t harm U.S. industry

   The U.S. International Trade Commission has determined that domestic manufacturers of grain-oriented electrical steel (GOES) are not harmed by similar imports from producers in Germany, Japan, and Poland, although the Commerce Department had determined the product is sold in the United States at less than fair value. 
   As a result of the ITC’s determination, no antidumping duty orders will be issued on imports of this product from the three countries. 
   GOES undergoes cutting, punching, coating, and other processes to manufacture laminated electro-magnetic cores for electrical power and distribution transformers.
   The estimated value of GOES imports from Germany, Japan and Poland in 2013 was $48.1 million, according to the ITC.
   The antidumping investigation petition was filed in mid-2013 by AK Steel Corp., West Chester, Ohio; Allegheny Ludlum, Pittsburgh; and the United Steel Workers union.
