Jamian to leave MarAd on May 1

Jamian to leave MarAd on May 1    Acting Maritime Administrator John Jamian told employees of the U.S. Transportation Department’s Maritime Administration that he will leave his post effective May 1.
Jamian was appointed by President Bush to deputy administrator of the MarAd in May 2003. He has served as acting administrator since the departure of Capt. William G. Schubert more than a year ago.
Jamian plans to return to Michigan.
Julie Nelson, MarAd’s chief counsel, is expected to be named acting maritime administrator until President Bush nominates a new administrator.
David Sanborn’s nomination to maritime administrator was recently withdrawn by the president after the national uproar over Sanborn’s employer Dubai Ports World and its recent attempt to acquire P&O Ports’ U.S. operations.
