L.A., Long Beach report May traffic rise
The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach said their container traffic is continuing to rise.
Long Beach said total container traffic was 524,715 TEUs in May, 25.1 percent more than May 2009. Imports were up 26.8 percent to 264,505 TEUs and export boxes rose 14.5 percent to 138,659 in May. Empties handled increased 35.2 percent to 121,551 TEUs in May when compared to the May 2009.
For the fiscal year that began Oct. 1, total container traffic is up 4 percent. (More information is available here.)
Los Angeles said container traffic was 689,421 TEUs in May, 19.9 percent more than May 2009. Imports were up 12.5 percent to 342,171 TEUs and export boxes improved 5.3 percent to 160,621 TEUs. Empties handled rose 57.8 percent to 186,628 TEUs.
Los Angeles’ total container traffic is down 3 percent for the fiscal year that began July 1, and up 11 percent since Jan. 1 when compared to the prior years. For details are available here.
