Miami International May air cargo tonnage up 7.8%

Miami International May air cargo tonnage up 7.8% Air freight tonnage at Miami International Airport increased 7.8 percent during May to more than 180,000 short tons.
   The leading air carriers saw mixed results, with several experiencing strong double-digit increases in cargo tonnage compared to May 2006. No. 1 freight carrier LAN Airlines' volume jumped 18.6 percent to 21,000 tons, and No. 4 cargo carrier American Airlines improved 27 percent to nearly 15,000 tons. American was almost overtaken by Centurion Air Cargo, which increased its tonnage 31 percent to 14,530 tons, and Arrow Cargo, which gained 68 percent to 14,348 tons.
   No. 2 cargo carrier UPS saw a 2.2 percent decrease to 15,084 tons, and Colombia-based Tampa Cargo, No. 3, gained only 1.2 percent to 14,986 tons.
