MOL, NYK to suspend G6 Asia service

In response to seasonal changes in market demand, MOL and NYK will temporarily end participation on the Central China service.

In response to seasonal changes in market demand, it appears MOL and NYK will temporarily end participation on the G6 Alliance Central China (CC2) service, according to an analysis of the liners’ schedules. Their last sailing will depart Shanghai Oct. 31 on the OOCL Italy.
It is unclear whether APL will remain a vessel operator on the service.
According to the Hapag-Lloyd and OOCL schedules, OOCL will continue to operate vessels, while Hapag-Lloyd and Hyundai remain slot purchasers.
Before the service changes, five vessels averaging approximately 5,800 TEUs sailed on a 35-day rotation calling Ningbo, Shanghai, Los Angeles and Ningbo.
Even though Hapag-Lloyd shows the October and early November sailings will exchange the call to Los Angeles for Long Beach, the port rotation will return to calling Ningbo, Shanghai, Los Angeles and Ningbo on the Dec. 2 sailing of the OOCL Italy.
