MOL to transport coal for electricity project in India

The Japanese ocean carrer signed an agreement with Thermal Powertech Corp. India Ltd. on Thursday to provide energy resources for the electric company’s ongoing projects to power India.

   Japanese ocean carrier Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has signed a contract with Thermal Powertech Corp. India Ltd. (TPCIL) to transport coal as a means of stable power supply throughout India, according to a statement from the company.
   TPCIL owns and operates a 1,320-megawatt thermal power plant in India’s Andhra Pradesh state and is currently supplying electricity to the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states.
   Owned by Sembcorp Industries in Singapore and Gayatri Projects Ltd. in India, the electric company will be supported by a stable supply of coal via MOL’s ocean shipping services, the carrier said.
   MOL said at the signing ceremony on Thursday it anticipates strong demand growth in India and Asia and will continue to provide efficient transport of resources and energy to those areas.
