Ocean carriers exchange slots on Asia-U.S. East Coast loops

ZIM will join the CKYHE Alliance’s AWE1 and AWE8 services, while Hanjin will join the Israeli ocean carrier’s Z7S service later this month.

   Ocean carrier Hanjin will join ZIM’s Z7S loop, while ZIM will join the CKYHE Alliance’s AWE1 and AWE8 loops later this month.
   All three of these services operate between Asia and the United States East Coast. Although considered an alliance service, CKYHE member Evergreen Line does not participate in the AWE1 service.
   Hanjin will join ZIM’s Z7S, dubbing it the AWZ, with the Dec. 19 sailing of the Lena-S from Da Chan Bay, according to the carrier’s most recent online service schedules. Hanjin refers to the loop as the AWZ.
   The rotation of the service is Da Chan Bay, Yantian, Cai Mep (near Ho Chi Minh), Singapore, Colombo, New York, Savannah, Norfolk, Singapore and Da Chan Bay. The Z7S operates with 10 vessels with an average capacity of 4,756 TEUs, according to ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting. OOCL is also a slot purchaser on the loop.
   ZIM will join the CKYHE Alliance’s AWE1, dubbing it the ZNX, with the Dec. 20 sailing of the Hanjin Haiphong from Ningbo, according to the carrier’s most recent online service schedules.
   The rotation of the loop is Ningbo, Shanghai, Busan, New York, Wilmington (N.C.), Savannah, Busan and Ningbo. The AWE1 operates with nine vessels, all provided by Hanjin, with an average capacity of 4,258 TEUs, according to BlueWater Reporting.
   In addition, the Israeli ocean carrier will join the CKYHE Alliance’s AWE8, dubbing it the ZTU, with the Dec. 23 eastbound sailing of the Ever Libra from New York and the Dec. 23 westbound sailing of an unspecified vessel from Xiamen.
   The rotation of the AWE8 is Xiamen, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Yantian, Singapore, New York, Norfolk, Savannah and Xiamen. The service operates with 11 vessels with an average capacity of 8,455 TEUs, according to BlueWater Reporting. Evergreen Line provides five of the vessels, while Hanjin and COSCO provide three vessels each, and CSCL also takes slots on the loop.
