Prince Rupert clears space for terminal expansion

The Canadian port will spend $16 million to relocate a maintenance building and construct a warehouse off the wharf to accommodate the expansion of the Fairview Container Terminal.

The Port of Prince Rupert said Monday it will spend $16 million to relocate a maintenance building and construct a warehouse off the wharf to accommodate the expansion of the Fairview Container Terminal.
The project is scheduled to be completed in September 2017.
Last year, DP World purchased the right to operate the Fairview Terminal, which handled 776,412 TEUs during the year. The terminal has become a strong competitor to other West Coast ports since its opening nine years ago.
The Fairview expansion, which includes the addition of a new wharf, widening the existing wharf and construction of a container park east of the terminal, is anticipated to be completed by mid-2017.
