Salerno joins BIMCO as U.S. liason

The international shipping organization BIMCO said Monday it has named Ret. Vice Adm. Brian Salerno as its new U.S. liaison officer.
Salerno recently retired from the U.S. Coast Guard as its deputy commandant for operations in headquarters. He will join BIMCO on Aug. 1.
Salerno took up his final Coast Guard appointment in May 2010, following assignments as the assistant commandant for marine safety, security and stewardship. He has also served as the assistant commandant for policy and planning, and as the director of inspections and compliance at Coast Guard headquarters.
In a 35-year career with the agency, Salerno has predominantly worked within its marine safety program.
“A familiar face at the International Maritime Organization, he is well known and respected within the world of commercial shipping, having led numerous high-level advisory committees, industry/stakeholder partnerships and international delegations on marine safety, security and environmental protection,” BIMCO said.
As part of BIMCO’s international activities in key political centers for shipping around the world, BIMCO has two liaison officers. In Washington, Salerno will be taking over from Ret. Rear Adm. Paul Pluta, while in Brussels BIMCO is currently supported by Robert Coleman.
