Seaboard to change container seal practices
Seaboard Marine said today it will soon end its practice of supplying line container seals to customers because of the need to comply with Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism guidelines.
The Miami-based Caribbean and Latin America trades carrier said it can no longer supply line seals and that, effective Oct. 29, it will no longer be able to accept containers from customers that do not have a customer-applied, embossed, numbered seal attached to the locking mechanism on the container. That mean the carrier will not accept containers if a customer has applied a padlock instead of a seal. Seaboard noted customers must now use their own numbered and embossed seal.
Seaboard sounded a conciliatory note: 'Seaboard Marine apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and we thank you for you understanding in the matter of mutual concern.'
