Second public meeting set for new Long Beach Port terminal development
A second public meeting seeking input for a proposed container terminal development project on the Port of Long Beach's Pier S will be held Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at Long Beach City Hall.
The public is being asked to comment in writing or make comments that will be included as the port prepares its Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the project. The port is required by law to seek public input.
A first public meeting on Feb. 12 attracted only a handful of community members, most strongly opposed to the project.
The Pier S Development Project could be one of the last large-scale terminal-from-scratch projects to be built on existing land in either the Port of Long Beach or the adjacent Port of Los Angeles. The Pier S project proposes to construct a 160-acre, environmentally friendly containerized cargo terminal on former railroad property that the port cleaned up nearly five years ago. The site has sat vacant since then.
The port and the Army Corps of Engineers (the two lead agencies for the project) will conduct the meeting Thursday at the Long Beach City Hall, located at 333 W. Ocean Blvd.
Comments in writing can be submitted though March 14 to The Port of Long Beach, 925 Harbor Plaza, Long Beach, CA, 90802 (attn: Dr. Robert Kanter, director of planning).
