SOUTH SEAS/POLYNESIA START JOINT U.S. WEST COAST/SOUTH PACIFIC
SERVICE

South Seas Steamship Line, owned by the German shipping group Hamburg-Sud, and San Francisco-based Polynesia Line are starting a joint monthly U.S.    West Coast/South Pacific service on Thursday.

The vessel “Polynesia” will make the first sailing from the Matson terminal, Los Angeles, on Feb. 10. The two carriers are supplying one vessel each and taking space from each other.

South Seas and Polynesia Line had applied to the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission for approval last September.

Previously, each carrier operated separate services for the trade. Polynesia Line had a monthly service, whilst South Seas had a service with a 20-day frequency.

The rotation for the new service is Los Angeles, San Francisco, Papeete, Apia, Pago Pago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Details of the new service are available from the free internet global shipping resource ComPairSchedules at http://www.compairschedules.com.
