Tug strike in Rotterdam could end today

The Port of Rotterdam is reporting vessel delays due to a strike by tugboat workers.

On Monday five vessels were waiting outside the port and seven vessels were stuck berthside because of strike at Smit International NV that began Saturday morning, according to the port’s Web site.

The port said the strike could last up to five days.

Smit provides 70 percent of the towage service at the port.

Some smaller vessels that normally use tug services will enter their harbor on their own at a slower speed, depending on weather conditions, the port said.
