U.K. to use containers as temporary jails

Faced with a prison-overcrowding crisis, the United Kingdom government is planning to convert sea containers imported from China into temporary jails, according to The Observer newspaper.

The British newspaper said the units would be installed in five prisons across the country by June at a cost of '3.5 million ($6.8 million) each. Also, two large-scale units comprising five containers bolted together and capable of holding 300 prisoners could be in place by the end of the year, if they get planning permission.
