U.N. group sees progress in Haiti

A United Nations advisory group said there are tangible improvements in security conditions in Haiti, offering hope for increased stability in the country.

The report from the U.N. Economic and Social Council’s advisory group on Haiti said U.N peacekeepers in Haiti are taking on gang violence 'head-on on their home turf,' and have been successful in dramatically slowing gang violence and intimidation in the Cit' Soleil section of Port-au-Prince.

Canada's ambassador to the U.N., John McNee, who heads the advisory group, said, 'Our goal is to promote recovery and stability and to ensure that Haiti receives the sustained long-term international support it needs.'
