U.S. allows live birds, eggs from Poland, Germany

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service said it will allow imports of live birds, poultry products and eggs from Poland and Germany, effective June 22.

The agency banned these products following outbreaks of avian flu in 2006 and 2007.

The USDA has since determined that the risk of introducing HPAI H5N1 avian flu into the United States from these products is now minimal.
