The new regional hub in Salt Lake city is slated for completion in late 2018.
Parcel giant and third-party logistics provider UPS broke ground on a new regional hub in Salt Lake City, which is slated for completion in late 2018, the company said.
The $275 million project will encompass an 840,000-square-foot facility and will support 1,500 jobs.
Situated on nearly 160 acres with interstate and airport access, the facility and surrounding property will also include onsite fueling for both diesel and natural gas alternative fueled vehicles.
Aided by new technology and automation techniques, the facility is cited to process an estimated 69,000 packages per hour.
UPS already has 200,000 square feet of operations in Salt Lake City, and employs over 3,500 workers in Utah in its package, heavy freight and contract logistics operations.
The announcement comes in the wake of UPS’ financial outlook and 2019 objectives, which includes the possibility of drone delivery systems.
