Following the loss of Grande America on 12 March a 10km long oil slick from the ship’s bunker fuel threatens to pollute parts of the French coast, while cargo owners count the cost of the destruction of their freight.
Gimaldi, the owner of the Grande America which caught fire and sank off the coast of France this week, has confirmed that the fire started in a cargo container. The third such fire in the last three months.
The Grimaldi vessel Grande America caught fire on 10 March and sank on 12 March after a cargo fire. on deck spread to other containers. All the crew and passengers were rescued.
