FedEx Freight, the less-than-truckload unit of FedEx Corp., (NYSE: FDX) announced late Friday it has enacted another round of temporary driver furloughs in some U.S. markets in what it called an effort to “align our workforce with operational requirements.”
The unit did not disclose the number of furloughed drivers, nor did it state how long they might be furloughed.
Some eligible employees will be offered permanent transfer opportunities to other markets that have hiring needs, according to a FedEx statement. FedEx Freight will maintain health benefits and provide other financial incentives for furloughed employees.
The company also said it “will continue to evaluate the environment and bring back furloughed employees as business circumstances allow.”
In November, FedEx Freight announced 90-day furloughs of an undetermined number of drivers. Those furloughs started in December.
Like other LTL carriers, FedEx Freight has been impacted by weaker volumes stemming from a decline in industrial production activity. Industrial shipments are LTL carriers’ livelihood.

I complained on the wrong page. But I had also problems with both. I am glad I retired and do not have to deal with this any more. The contractors are the ones I had most problems with. Problem I had with freight was my garage was on a dead end street and most of the drivers could not back in to unload. When I moved to my new building I had a phone number to call because the town ei not repair the road and it is dirt. The big trucks can not make the hill. They would call a couple days late and want me to drive a #50 miles to get the eng. Or what ever they had. Told them when you get cold call me I will meet you. Had 1 driver would call say I half hour from you we would meet no problem. If he was off the driver would call and say im here where are you. Do bad both ways. But I vfl not have to worry any more. Good by freight companies.

I quit buying from places that would tell me I had to us fed ex. Reason why was not the cost. But lazy drivers. I needed a part for our heater in the house I paid $40.00 extra fo 2 day delivery. It took 4 days . Resin it was late they could not find my house. That I thought was a bunch of bull. Because I was getting medication delivered one time a month. Then all of a sudden they could not find my house. My business was before I retired in my back yard. The message on the packages said last house on the right of this road very detailed. I ordered a part they said it was delivered to the front door of the house. I ask them to have the driver to stop and show me where he left the package. I tried to get the insurance to pay. They refused because the driver left it. I told them if he left it at the front door I would have found it. I called the company told them the part is not here they sent another part by fed ex next day it was on the bench where they were to put freight. I had a bench at the front of the garage they were to place all freight. Ups never missed a beat til they got a new driver something he could not find my house with detailed directions on the package. Now I have the old driver back. No if they say I have to use fed ex I will not buy from them us postal or UPS.nk more fed ex. But all I get anymore is meds.

To Steve and Chris. Tim is right. FedEx freight does sub contract freight out to Landstar, US express, and other carriers. Now with making deliveries they use there company driver’s. I’ve seen some of FedEx freight driver’s they complain about the route given. So why should a company deal with these drivers when they can hire a contractor to do the job without any complaints
