Los Angeles-Long Beach box volume up 10% in July    Container volume at the Californian ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach increased 10 percent in July to a combined 1.34 million TEUs, compared to 1.22 million TEUs in the same month last year.
   The majority of the increase came from the Port of Los Angeles, which handled 761,326 TEUs, up 17.2 percent compared to 648,380 TEUs handled in July 2005. Los Angeles’ monthly loaded inbound traffic increased 14.8 percent to 404,665 TEUs, while loaded outbound volume went up 17.5 percent to 124,134 TEUs. The number of empty containers handled at the port rose 17.2 percent to 232,528 TEUs.
   The Port of Long Beach handled 582,925 TEUs in July, up 1.7 percent from the 573,300 TEUs it handled a year ago. Import volume rose 5.4 percent to 305,117 TEUs, from 289,518 a year ago. Outbound volume dropped 5.7 percent to 100,861 TEUs, from 106,917 TEUs with empties flat at 175,947 TEUs.
   After seven months of 2006, the Port of Los Angeles’ throughput is up 10.2 percent to 4.63 million TEUs while the Port of Long Beach has witnessed growth of 8.5 percent to 5.88 million TEUs. Combined, the two ports have increased their volume by 9.2 percent to 10.5 million TEUs.
