Sandeep Kar writes about how the ELD mandates in the U.S. and Canada are changing the trucking landscape.
ELD maker Konexial is expanding its customer base through the acquisition of Axle Technologies’ AORBD customer list. Also, FedEx and UPS ramp up drone deliveries, a port expansion in Seattle, and Hyundai to introduce fuel cell truck.
The carriers with the fewest trucks are also the least compliant, meaning the carriers with the most to lose are the same carriers that cannot afford to lose it.
Only 5% of carriers are still using automatic onboard recording devices (AOBRDs), according to a FreightWaves survey conducted in conjunction with EROAD and CarrierLists.
About 20% of carriers still using AOBRDs are expected to hold onto the devices into December.
Individual carriers may face consequences for putting off the switch to ELDs, but the overall market is not expected to take a hit.
While many fleets and drivers are using ELDs, there are still some using AOBRDs, and time is quickly running out before the December deadline to switch arrives.
When compliance rate is broken down by fleet type, it becomes clear that some segments of the industry are more compliant than others.
The latest survey results show the highest compliance rates observed so far.
