New CMA CGM acquisition Cheng Lie expanding horizons to India Taiwan’s Cheng Lie Navigation Corp. (CNC Line), acquired by French shipping giant CMA CGM in April, is expanding beyond its traditional intra-Far East environment to add two services between China and India.
   The carrier will start a joint New India Express (NIX) service this Sunday with Korea Marine Transport Co. (KMTC) that will use five vessels of about 1,860 TEUs, with four ships from KMTC and one from CNC.
   The NIX loop will have a port rotation of Xingang, Qingdao, Busan, Hong Kong, Shekou, Singapore, Port Kelang, Nhava Sheva, Port Kelang, Singapore, Hong Kong, Busan and Xingang.
   Secondly, CNC will in September join with Wan Hai Lines and Sea Consortium on a previously announced North China-South India Express Service (NCC) that will use four vessels of 1,700 TEUs calling Qingdao, Lianyungang, Shanghai, Singapore, Port Kelang, Chennai, Port Kelang, Singapore, Hong Kong and Qingdao.
   “These new services are expected to meet our customers’ needs, and will allow connect growing container markets of China to Southeast Asia and India,” said Igal Dafni, new president of CNC.
