Trade investigators initiate 3 cases

The U.S. International Trade Commission said last week it will open investigations into computer security systems, computers and pet food treats.

The agency will look into a complaint by Trend Micro Inc., Cupertino, Calif., that Fortinet Inc. illegally imported software and hardware systems that detect and remove viruses or worms from computer systems.

Hewlett-Packard lodged a complaint against rival Gateway Inc. for importing personal computers and network servers that HP claims infringe seven of its patents.

The third complaint the agency will investigate comes from Hillbilly Smokehouse, Rogers Ariz., which alleged six competitors were importing products that infringed on a patent.
